Case Study Four: Evidence of Signs of Dementia

Mr. Jones evidences signs of dementia and requires further work up. However, before going more into problems related to significant cognitive impairment, it's helpful to first consider the common changes in cognition that are seen with aging.

Mrs. Newsome, 68 year old recently retired elementary school teacher, comes to clinic for a routine follow-up of her blood pressure. During her visit she comments that she is concerned about her memory. She notes that she's having more difficulty remembering the names of individuals she knows when she meets them, usually remembering after the situation has past. She also complains of misplacing her keys or what she went for when entering a room, often having to retrace her steps.
