MODULE SUPPLEMENT: CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
Case 3

Recall Mr. Wong, the 78 year old retired accountant who came to clinic complaining of dizziness, especially in the early afternoon. He noted that he has "fainted" once, but was not seriously injured at this time. Mr. Wong has a 55 pack year history of smoking. His medical history includes COPD, peripheral vascular disease, and hypertension. His hypertension is currently treated with chlorthalidone 50mg QD and atenolol 50mg QD.

What do you need to know and what problems do you see? How does an understanding of age related changes in the cardiovascular system help in assessing Mr. Wong's problems and developing a plan of care?

As an exercise, write down what problems you see and what additional information you need to know. How does an understanding of age related changes in the cardiovascular system help in assessing Mr. Wong's problems and developing a plan of care?

After you finish reflecting on this question, continue with the course content.
